A charitable bequest is a gift specified in your Will. It can be a certain sum of money, a
particular asset, or a portion of your estate. We encourage you to seek professional legal and financial advice when preparing a future legacy gift to SideBySide Children’s Village Society. The information we provide is for your benefit, as well as that of your advisor(s), and is intended to supplement, but not replacfe, professional legal and financial advice.
A residual bequest is when you donate all or a percentage or share of your estate after all your debts, taxes, expenses, and specific bequests have been paid.
“I give the residue of my estate (or percentage of the residue) to SideBySide Children’s Village Society, Charitable Registration Number 12993-5011 RR0001, of 1200 – 805 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1K1, to be used for such objects and purposes as the Board of Directors shall from time to time determine.”
A specific bequest is when you donate a specific dollar amount, or piece of property, such as real estate, stocks, bonds, or works of art.
“I give the sum of $XXX,XXX (or description of property) to SideBySide Children’s Village Society, Charitable Registration Number 12993-5011 RR0001, of 1200 – 805 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1K1, to be used for such objects and purposes as the Board of Directors shall from time to time determine.”
A contingent bequest is when your gift is only effective if the original intent cannot be met, for example, a beneficiary does not survive and you wish us to be the alternate recipient of that gift or another gift or monetary amount.
“If (name of primary beneficiary) fails to survive me for a period of thirty (30) days, then I give (description of gift or monetary sum) to SideBySide Children’s Village Society, Charitable Registration Number 12993-5011 RR0001, of 1200 – 805 West Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1K1, to be used for such objects and purposes as the Board of Directors shall from time to time determine.”
